Sign up for this wonderful MOOC: www.coursera.org/course/humanlanguage
It provides an introduction into linguistics. The course has just ended but the material is still accessible. The course might run again later this year. I've just completed this course and really enjoyed it. It provides videos (with a very enthusiastic professor) as well as reading materials, and you can test yourself by weekly quizzes, a final exam and (optionally) two peer reviewed assignments. They also provide a list of reading suggestions to delve deeper into a particular topic. There's also a related Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/miraclesofhumanlanguage
In addition, the Virtual Linguistics Campus already mentioned above has two courses starting in about four weeks: http://linguistics.online.uni-marburg.de/free/information/registrationoffice/registerclasses_show.php
