Hi, I have to write a minimum of 20 pages on this topic. It is for a linguistic class. I like the idea behind this topic, but I just can't wrap my head around it, how should I go about starting this out? What should be the main focus? Also what could be some interesting brand names to analyse? How many should I focus on in 20 pages?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you Sara

I'll throw out some ideas for you:

-A phonetic analysis of i.e. snack brands vs. car brands vs. soap brands. See what the most common phonemes are for different categories of brand names.

-Get transcripts of radio or TV ads and see what words or grammatical structures are most common for each type of product.

-Pick a few seemingly nonsensical brand names, i.e. Xerox, Lidl, Pepsi, and try to figure out the provenance of the names

Good luck!
