English related question: Why is it that we call citizens of America, Americans, Austria Austrian, Egypt, Egyptian, but use Japanese not Japanian, Taiwanese, Maltese, Turks are Turkish but Afghans are Afghani, people from Kuwait are Kuwaiti and Israeli - Israeli? Is there some regional or hidden rule for the choice of suffix?
