Latin par, and Greek para

I'm wondering if there is a relationship between the Latin "par", from which we get English words such as parochial, parish, etc., the Latin, "participatio", from which we get participation and the Greek "para", from which we get English words such as, paralegal, paramedic, and the biblical, paraclete? Is there something about the "par" at the heart of all of Greek and Latin?
