2016-08-14 13:50:16 -0400 | asked a question | What is the origin of the disappearance of the first "t" sound in "important"? I have noticed within the last few years that people in their 20's often drop the "t" sound in the middle of words such as "important" (they pronounce it as if spelled "impor-unt") or "Clinton" (pronounced as if spelled "Cli-un" - the first n sound gets left out, too). When and where did this strange, recent trend originate? |
